AI JSON Explainer
This AI JSON explainer takes a complex API response or config file and produces a clearly structured Markdown document with field descriptions. It supports your own API key (BYOK): every request goes directly from your browser to the model provider and never passes through this site, making it handy for quickly reading a third-party API or documenting your own.
How to use it
- 1
Configure your API key
Open "Model settings" and enter your OpenAI or compatible-platform API key. The key is stored only in your browser and is never uploaded by this site.
- 2
Paste your JSON
Paste the JSON you want explained into the input on the left. The tool validates it first.
- 3
Generate the document
Click "Generate documentation" and the AI analyses the structure and produces Markdown documentation on the right.
- 4
Preview and copy
A live Markdown preview is rendered on the right, and you can copy the Markdown source for an internal wiki or project docs.
Key features
Documentation generated automatically
Analyses the nesting and field types of your JSON and presents them as Markdown tables and lists.
BYOK (bring your own key)
You provide your own API key and model requests go directly from your browser, so sensitive data never passes through this site.
What-you-see-is-what-you-get preview
A built-in Markdown renderer shows the formatted result right on the page.
Wired into the workspace
Jump in from pages such as the formatter and keep a consistent experience.
Reusable Markdown output
The output is standard Markdown that pastes cleanly into a README, a knowledge base or any Markdown-capable tool.
OpenAI, Anthropic or compatible
Use the official OpenAI or Anthropic endpoints, or any OpenAI-compatible provider by supplying the full endpoint URL. The request is sent from the browser, so the endpoint must allow CORS.
Common errors & troubleshooting
- ! If the JSON is very large the document can get long. Extract a representative subset to explain for a better result.
- ! To use an OpenAI-compatible provider, choose "Custom (OpenAI compatible)" in settings and enter the full endpoint URL (like https://.../v1/chat/completions).
- ! The explanation is inferred, so it may not capture every business meaning exactly. Review and refine the generated text before publishing it.
- ! The output is plain Markdown, so you can paste it into GitHub or GitLab README files, wikis, Notion or any Markdown knowledge base.
Frequently asked questions
Is my API key stored on your servers?
No. In BYOK mode the API key is kept only in your browser LocalStorage, and all AI requests are issued directly by your browser to the model provider (such as OpenAI). This site has no backend.
Where can I use the generated documentation?
The output is standard Markdown source you can copy into a GitHub or GitLab README, a wiki, Notion or any Markdown-capable knowledge base.
Is my JSON uploaded to this site?
No. The request goes directly from your browser to the model provider you configure, so this site never receives your JSON — suitable for third-party API payloads and configs you would rather not hand to an intermediary.
How accurate is the generated documentation?
The model infers field meaning from names, values and structure, so it is a strong first draft rather than ground truth. Treat it as a starting point and adjust the wording to match your actual business rules.
